BODY WITHOUT WORLD

Video Portrait, December 2021

‘Physical pain does not simply resist language but actively destroys it.’ -Elaine Scarry, The Body in Pain

A spine of three-dimensional digital scans of the artist’s body tower like sedimentary layers of the self, reflecting the mattresses stacked in the tale of the Princess & the Pea, one reappropriated as a fable of neurological sensitivity. The performed image invokes notion of “Pain Time”, and the over 1500 hours the artist spent this year alone eclipsed by debilitating pain, the mindlessness of the enforced mindfulness of chronic pain, forced to inhabit the ever fetishised “moment”.
